“Didn’t Know This Rule”: Jannik Sinner Reacts After Receiving a Warning For Unsportsmanlike Conduct at Lyon Open 2021
19-year-old Jannik Sinner recently pulled off a stunner at the Lyon Open 2021. After getting bageled in the first set of the tournament, the Italian player made an incredible comeback and surprised Aslan Karatsev. As a result, he won the match and advanced to the second round of the tournament. The final scoreline of the match was 0-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Even though Jannik Sinner was overall happy about his performance, there was a big setback for him. The Italian player received a warning for unsportsmanlike conduct which is surely not a great sign for a promising player like him. One has to pay a lot of fine if he gets booked for unsportsmanlike conduct but Sinner was lucky as he only received a warning.
The reason for the same was that after losing the first set 0-6, Sinner took a toilet break but didn’t pee. As a result, the official booked him for the conduct. However, Sinner apologized for the same after the match and mentioned that he didn’t know of such a rule.
“I didn’t know this rule, I will never do it again,” said Sinner in the post-match interview after the match.
Sinner also assured the officials that he would not do such a mistake in his career again. He committed a mistake but definitely realized it and offered an apology quickly after the match.
Jannik Sinner in the 2021 season so far
After suffering a first-round exit at the Australian Open 2021, Sinner has had a pretty good season so far. He was the runner-up at the Miami Open 2021 and lost to Daniil Medvedev in the quarters of the Open 13- who later won the tournament.
The Italian lost to Aslan Karatsev in the quarters of the ATP Dubai 2021 even after winning the first set. Thus, the victory at Lyon Open was surely a special one for him as he took his long-due revenge.
The 19-year-old ended as a semi-finalist at the Barcelona Open 2021 after losing to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the finals. At the Italian Open 2021, he lost to Rafael Nadal in straight sets in the second round only.
Jannik Sinner has proved that he has got immense potential as a player. His priority is to excel at the Lyon Open 2021 and then head to Paris. Will Sinner be able to succeed at the French Open 2021?
