GB News has unveiled a first look at Andrew Neil’s upcoming TV channel, which will feature TV presenters including Kirsty Gallacher, Simon McCoy and Alistair Stewart.
Earlier this month, GB News – which has not officially been given a launch date as of yet – shared a sneak peek at its studio, with former Good Morning Europe presenter Rosie Wright donning a hard hat as she gave a video tour.
Now the channel, which will feature a variety of news reports, opinion pieces and debates on current affairs, has provided a glimpse at how it will look when it launches on TV.
In a video shared on social media, the Twitter account for the channel wrote: ‘We’re excited to reveal the GB News look and sound, which has just gone live on Freeview and YouView channels 236.’
The clip shows how the title sequence is going to look, featuring the tagline: ‘GB News: Britain’s News Channel.’
In a second slide, a line appears at the bottom that reads: ‘News, opinion and debate for all the United Kingdom,’ while an upbeat tune plays in the background.
Several people remarked on the background music, with one person tweeting: ‘BBC One’s early 1990s daytime schedule called – it wants its music back.’
‘This sounds like the theme for some BBC daytime programme from 1985,’ another commented.
Rumours are continuing to swirl regarding whether former Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan will be joining the channel.
Piers recently joked that he would need more than £2million to be enticed to sign up.
A Twitter user wrote a message to Piers that read: ‘Maybe [Piers Morgan] would help GB News reach a massive audience, but his £2m paycheque would take a huge chunk out of the station’s tightly managed budget.’
Piers jokingly responded: ‘It would take a much bigger chunk than that…. (said ‘sources close to Morgan’).’
Back in March, GB News chair Andrew said that it was a ‘real problem’ for ITV that they had lost Piers after the fallout over his comments on Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey.
‘Piers would be a huge asset to GB News and we’ll definitely look at that,’ Andrew said at the time.
‘We haven’t started any negotiations yet but we would certainly be delighted to talk to him if he’s up for it.’
GB News does not yet have a launch date.
