How old would the Friends characters be now?
A new Friends reunion trailer has been released, which shows Jennifer Aniston, Matthew Perry, Courtney Cox, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow and Matt LeBlanc back in the studio.
The HBO Max special will air next month, with celebrity guests like BTS, Lady Gaga, and Malala Yousafzai taking part.
James Corden is hosting the event, which is set to be an emotional one – in the trailer, Matthew Perry appears to break down in tears.
But as the anniversary looms of famous Friends scenes, like Chandler and Monica’s wedding, many are now wondering how old the characters would be now.
How old would the Friends characters be now?
Most of the main cast would be in their mid-fifties, but there’s some confusion over their exact age:
Monica: 51 years old
In the first series, she’s 24, roughly the same age as Rachel as they were in the same year at school. This means she’d be 51 in 2021.
Rachel: 50 years old
In The One Where They All Turn Thirty (set in early 2001), Rachel turns 30 and all of the others remember their 30th birthdays (implying that Rachel was the youngest). That would make her 50 now.

Joey: 52 years old
Joey is 25 in the first series, and then 28 in the second. We’ll go with the first number though, making him the baby of the group. Matt LeBlanc is 51, so his character is around the same age.
Phoebe: 54 years old
Hippie singer-songwriter Phoebe is around 27 is series one, which is slightly younger than Lisa Kudrow, who was 31 when Friends began.
Ross: 53 years old
Another inconsistency here, as while Ross is 26 in series one, he’s 29 throughout series 5, 6 and 7.
It is known that Ross and Chanlder were in college whilst Monica and Rachel were in high school – so him being two years older than his sister makes sense.
Chandler: 53 years old
Chandler would be the same age as Ross in the show, as the pair were classmates in college. So, Chandler’s age is also a bit of a mystery.
In real life, Matthew Perry was actually the youngest of the group. He got the job on the sitcom aged just 25 years old.
Richard: 72 years old
Monica’s handsome, moustachioed lover (played by Tom Selleck) is twenty one years older than her, and best friends with her dad.
Gunther: 59 years old
Ah, Gunther. Staple of Central Perk coffee shop, adorer of Rachel. It’s revealed in the third series that he’s about 35, which would make him 59 now.
