The Masked Singer US star Jenny McCarthy was left red-faced when she failed to recognise her own husband Donnie Wahlberg when he was unmasked as Cluedle-Doo.
The fifth season of The Masked Singer is currently airing in America, with Jenny on the panel of celebrity guessers alongside Nicole Scherzinger, Ken Jeong and Robin Thicke.
On the latest episode of the singing show, two singers were unmasked – Cluedle-Doo, who was not actually in the running in the competition, and Yeti, who was revealed to be singer Omarion.
Before Cluedle-Doo unveiled his true identity, model and actor Jenny hastened a guess that it could be Akon underneath the chicken costume.
But lo and behold, it was in fact Mark Wahlberg’s brother Donnie, 51, who she has been married to since 2014.
Jenny, 48, fell to the ground at the huge reveal as the audience gasped with shock.
‘Oh my god!’ Jenny screamed as she poked her head above the judges’ table, before getting to her feet and saying: ‘I’m shaking!’
‘Donnie! Have you been coming each week and lying?’ Jenny asked her husband, to which he replied: ‘I’ve been sneaking in and out.’
Donnie explained that he had two reasons for being on the show, the first of which was to see his wife.
The second, the singer said, was for his fans, having been a part of boy band New Kids on the Block in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
‘It’s been so long since I’ve performed for my fans, and New Kids on the Block fans, affectionately known as Blockers, they’re family. They’re my heart. So I did it for my ladies and brothers and of course my lady too,’ Donnie said.
Jenny later expressed her embarrassment on Twitter over failing to recognise her husband’s voice.
‘This is gonna take a while to get over. The shame. Thank God @DonnieWahlberg still loves me. Amazing job tonight mister. I love you. #themaskedsinger,’ the John Tucker Must Die star wrote.
‘Mrs W aka @JennyMcCarthy is still embarrassed that she didn’t guess me — after guessing me 348 times in the four previous seasons of #TheMaskedSinger,’ Donnie tweeted.
There are three contestants left in the running on The Masked Singer US: Black Swan, Chameleon and Piglet. So who will take the crown?
The Masked Singer US airs Wednesday on Fox in the US.
