WWE Releases Former NXT North American Champion Velveteen Dream

In what happens to be one of the hottest news in wrestling right now, NXT Superstar Velveteen Dream is the latest superstar to be released from WWE. However, this release comes as a shocker as he was backstage on WWE Raw a few weeks ago.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com confirmed the news of Velveteen Dream’s WWE release on Twitter. Canyon Ceman, WWE Senior Director of Talent Development, delivered the news to everyone within WWE of Dream’s release. Although WWE has not many any official announcements yet.

Many from the WWE Universe believed Velveteen Dream would be gone amid all the controversies, but he didn’t. Talking more Velveteen’s release, Sean Ross Sapp also confirmed there were several controversies around him that led to this move. He also added several people in the WWE PC revealed Dream was a very private person.

Not much is known as to what went into his release and what took WWE so long considering he was plaqued by controversies since April last year. Despite all that, he returned to challenge Adam Cole for the NXT Championship at NXT TakeOver: In Your House. The result? He came up short and disappeared from TV again.

He made another comeback in end of the Summer and tried to reclaim his NXT North American Championship in a ladder match. Sadly, he fell short once again. His feud with Kushida that culminated at NXT TakeOver: 31 would be his last feud in the company. He wasn’t used on TV since December, and now we know that he’s released.

Just like every released superstar, Velveteen Dream, too has a no-compete clause. However, due to him being a NXT Superstar, it is only for 30 days, unlike the standard 90-day no-compete for main roster superstars.

Given the talent and potential of Velveteen Dream, he would be the top star anywhere. Sadly, his controversies are always in the limelight, and that would be the biggest obstacle. We sincerely hope Dream comes out a better person, and climbs up the ranks in the world of pro wrestling once again.
