Chris Evans has gone and obliterated our hearts into a million pieces with the sweetest clip of him meeting his beloved dog Dodger for the first time.

Celebrating National Rescue Dog Day, the Avengers star shared a video of him meeting his pooch in a shelter where he was filming Gifted in Savannah in 2017.

He began his message: ‘Happy #nationalrescuedogday

‘This is the moment I met Dodger. I was filming a movie in Savannah and the scene took place at a shelter. I had no intention of rescuing a dog that day, but the minute I saw him I knew he was coming home w me. [sic].’

In the clip Chris is seen gingerly approaching Dodger, who immediately begins wagging his tail when he realises the actor is coming to visit his cage.

Holding his hand out for Dodger to assess, it soon becomes clear the beloved dog is a fan as he enthusiastically licks Chris’s hand before the actor puts his hand through a gap in the cage’s door and pats his chest.

Chris added: ‘There are so many loving animals at shelters who are in desperate need of a home. Visit a shelter and leave with a best friend.’

The star previously revealed he didn’t realise the dogs in the shelter weren’t dogs for hire, sharing his shock at finding out they were all up for adoption.

He told People: ‘One of the last scenes we were filming was in a pound, a kennel. I foolishly walked in and I thought, “Are these actor dogs or are these real up for adoption dogs?” And sure enough they were, so I was walking up and down the aisles and saw this one dude and he didn’t belong there.

‘I snagged him, and he’s such a good dog. They aged him at about one; he acts like a puppy, he’s got the energy of a puppy, he’s just such a sweetheart, he’s such a good boy. He loves dogs, he loves kids, he’s full of love.’

Having shared many a memory with Dodger over the years – which we’re incredibly lucky to witness – Chris wrote on social media in 2018 about their first meeting: ‘He was trying so hard to stay seated even though he desperately wanted to get out.

‘I knew right away that he was coming home with me.’

Ugh, these two.
