‘I’m a One-Team Guy’ – Julian Edelman Squashes Rumors of Him Joining Tom Brady at Tampa Bay

The news of wide receiver Julian Edelman retiring came as a shock to many. The 34-year-old who played for the New England Patriots had a 2020 season ravaged by injuries. 

But even then, one did not expect the wideout to hang up his playing shoes altogether. The wide receiver though after failing a medical stated that his body had had enough. 

Being a regular on the Patriots roster ever since being drafted in 2009, the wideout announced his retirement from the game with three Super Bowl rings and a Super Bowl MVP to his name. 

But many took his decision to retire with a pinch of salt. This perhaps is down to the fact that a former Patriots player did the same only to resign with a different franchise a year after being away from the game. And that player is none other than Rob Gronkowski, Edelman’s former teammate at New England.

Gronk, who is now a Tampa Bay Buccaneers player had his reasons for making the switch. Tom Brady too moved over from the Patriots too the Bucs in 2020, prompting Gronk to come out of retirement and play for the franchise.

With Edelman being as close as he was with Brady and Gronk, people believed that the wideout too would be joining them at Tampa. But that according to Julian Edelman himself will certainly not be the case.

Julian Edelman is not budging   

Appearing on the Michael Irvin Podcast, Edelman put to bed the rumors surrounding him joining the Patriots. 

“I’m a one-team guy,” said Edelman while talking to the NFL Hall of Famer.  

The 2019 Super Bowl MVP further elucidated on his decision to not return to the league again.

“My knees breaking down, I’m not gonna sit here, you know, I got everything I wanted,” Edelman said.

“I got three rings, played in a magical dynasty, with an unbelievable franchise coach, best quarterback of all time, like, yo, I’m not a greedy guy. I played to win, I played to compete, I don’t need anything else to prove,” he added.

Gronk and Brady have both teased the idea of seeing Edelman in a Bucs uniform next season. But as things stand, it doesn’t seem like that wish of theirs will come true.
