New Tony Hawk game leaked by rock band but is it new or another remake?
A member of the band CKY may have given away the existence of a new Tony Hawk game, which the band claims to have contributed music to.
Given the positive reception and success of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, a remake of the original two games, you’d think Activision would immediately get to work making some kind of follow-up.
Although Activision hasn’t announced anything, it sounds like it’s done exactly that, as a musician may have accidentally given away a new Tony Hawk game’s existence.
Jess Margera, the drummer for rock band CKY, appeared on the Behind Closed Doors Podcast back in April.
The podcast episode is now a month old, but fans only recently noticed that he mentions working on a new Tony Hawk game.
While discussing how bands can make money beyond selling albums, Margera mentions licensing deals with video games as one method. The interviewer then asks if CKY had ever contributed their music to one of the Tony Hawk games.
One of CKY’s songs was featured in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 from 2001, but Margera responds with ‘Yeah, and I believe we’re doing the new one coming out too.’
He can’t be referring to the Pro Skater remakes as CKY is absent from the full track list. Plus, Margera later mentions his son having only just got a PlayStation 5 and a copy of Pro Skater 1 +2.
There is already something of a precedent of musicians leaking Tony Hawk games. Punk band The Death Set had previously said that it had licensed music to a new Tony Hawk game, before the remakes were announced.
Interestingly enough, none of The Death Set’s songs are featured on Pro Skater 1 + 2’s official track list. Could this mean that it was referring to a different Tony Hawk game entirely? Perhaps even the same one Margera talked about.
One possibility is that, considering CKY’s presence on the soundtrack, Activision is at least remaking Pro Skater 3. Or maybe both it and Pro Skater 4 to sell as a bundle, just like Pro Skater 1 +2.
As for which studio could be developing it, you would assume it would be Vicarious Visions, since it did Pro Skater 1 +2. However, after its release, Vicarious Visions was merged with Activision Blizzard and is currently assisting development on a Diablo 2 remake.
Activision even added that the studio would be completely dedicated to supporting Blizzard’s existing games, leading many to assume that there would be no future Tony Hawk games.
Not to mention that Activision has most of its other studios focused on supporting Call Of Duty at the moment. Only last month, Crash 4 studio Toys for Bob was moved onto Call Of Duty: Warzone, so it’s unclear who would be available for a new game.
Activision was approached for a comment by VGC, but a spokesperson unsurprisingly said that the company ‘doesn’t comment on rumour or speculation.’
