“This Belt Could Change Hands Every Single Fight” – Michael Chandler Believes Charles Oliveira Might Lose His Title in His Next Fight

Michael Chandler and Charles Oliveira locked horns at UFC 262 for the vacant UFC lightweight title. After suffering a second-round TKO loss at UFC 262, ‘Iron’ Chandler shared his thoughts on Oliveira being a champion. 

In the UFC lightweight division, UFC fans have witnessed several lightweight champions. So far, Khabib Nurmagomedov is the longest-reigning of all the 11 champions. He held the belt from April 2018 to March 2021.

‘Do Bronx’ did spectacularly claim the title at UFC 262. But the crucial question that arises is whether he will remain the champion or lose his title in the next fight. In an interview with ESPN MMA, Chandler shared many things, including the answer to the above question.

‘Iron’ said – “I mean, that’s a hard one to answer because if I say no, then everyone’s gonna say, but you lost to him, so you gotta give him some props at least. But I do give him props. I do think Charles Oliveira is world class. But I think the beautiful thing about the lightweight division is, man, this belt could change hands every single fight.”

Michael Chandler is glad to fight in the lightweight division

The UFC lightweight division has several elite athletes. Every fighter in the top 5 has the potential to claim the title. And Chandler feels the same way about the UFC’s lightweight division.

In the same interview, the #4 ranked contender said – “I believe I am a split second away to beat anybody in the top 5. For the belt or not for the belt, every single guy in the top 5 is in that same position. And that’s why the lightweight division is the most exciting, most electrifying division in the UFC. And I am glad to be right in the mix of it.”

The lightweight division has many skilled fighters, and Charles Oliveira is one of them. So, that means he has the potential to become the longest-reigning champion. However, as the UFC lightweight division’s history speaks for itself, Michael Chandler’s intuition might come to fruition.
