UFC Fight Night: Font vs Garbrandt- Jack Hermansson vs Edmen Shahbazyan: Preliminary Card Prediction and Analysis

UFC middleweights Jack Hermansson and Edmen Shahbazyan are tasked with opening up the main card for UFC Vegas 27. The fight card is headlined by Cody Garbrandt and Rob Font and is stacked with fights from top to bottom. Hermansson vs Shahbazyan is a good example of the quality bouts lined up considering the scrap can headline any Fight Night card.

The middleweight division has had a sort of unofficial tournament going on with many contender match-ups in succession. Hermansson vs Shahbazyan is yet another iteration in this play-off series that will lead to Israel Adesanya. In fact, Marvin Vettori’s recent win over Kevin Holland in the ‘unofficial tournament’ afforded him the opportunity to fight for gold at UFC 263.

Jack ‘The Joker’ is coming off a defeat to none other than current title challenger, Marvin Vettori. Hermansson was out-gunned in that fight and was effectively pieced apart on the feet by ‘The Italian Dream’. The loss was a considerable setback at the time, however, Hermansson has already proved his mettle as a seasoned campaigner.

The Swedish fighter is lethal on the ground and Shahbazyan could be in for a long night at the office. Jack Hermansson sets up his strikes off a lead jab and has fundamentally sound power in his left hand especially. As is displayed through numerous fights, Hermansson is aggressive with searching out an available limb to secure the finish.

Edmen Shahbazyan is coming off the first loss of his professional career and fans are excited to see how he bounces back. He was dominated by divisional veteran Derek Brunson back in August and some fighters never return quite the same. However, Shahbazyan has displayed plenty of promise in the cage and there’s no reason to doubt his resilience.

The Golden Boy’ relies on unpredictability during his fights and his ability to explode is matched only by Robert Whittaker. He’ll have to be careful about over-extending as Jack Hermansson is adept at getting in from underneath for the takedown. Shahbazyan would have had to have made improvements in the grappling department since his last outing to compete with Hermansson.

Prediction: Jack Hermansson to claim a second-round RNC choke.
