Aston Martin F1 Claim No Pressure From Stroll Sr Despite Poor Results

Everyone was excited about the rebranding of Racing Point to Aston Martin for the 2021 season. However, things haven’t gone their way so far. Despite the team’s performance being underwhelming this year, Team Principal Otmar Szafnauer has stated there is no additional pressure from the higher-ups at the team.

The British team finished last season with a fourth-place with 195 points, and they were optimistic for the season ahead. They got in four-time world, champion Sebastian Vettel to partner with Lance Stroll, in order to boost their title hopes.

Unfortunately, the Silverstone squad hasn’t been able to perform at the levels they thought they would. As of now, the team sits in 7th place with just five points, courtesy of Stroll.

Szafnauer feels no pressure from team owner Stroll

Explaining how the entire team are realistic and understand the position that the Silverstone squad are in, Szafnauer revealed they are not under any additional pressure from the Lawrence Stroll or shareholders of the company because of their performance.

As quoted by Autosport, he said,  “None of us are happy with the situation we’re in. We’ve got to be realistic as to what we can do with a frozen car, a frozen rake and regulations that are significantly changing for 2022.”

“So, we just have to be realistic to understand the situation we’re in, and do the best we can with the car and the tools that we have.”

“For sure there’s always pressure when you’re not achieving where you thought you were going to achieve. But like I said, we all have to be realistic and do what we can, without compromising the 2022 programme,” Otmar concluded.

How will Aston Martin perform at the Monaco Grand Prix?

The next race in the F1 calendar is Monaco GP, a challenging street circuit in the French Principality. Due to the lack of overtaking opportunities, qualifying is even more important in Monte Carlo, as the results of quali often mirror the results of the race. Thus, the team hope to have a good qualifying session so that they can have a good day at the office on Sunday.

The first practice session held on Thursday gave the Silverstone- squad a rough idea of how well they will perform on Sunday. Stroll finished 11th fastest while his German teammate, Sebastian Vettel, managed to finish eighth.

Then, in FP2, Vettel only managed to finish 10th while Stroll fell down the pecking order and put in the 13th fastest lap of the session.
