Bill Turnbull using oxygen tank, garlic and cannabis oil to help himself in cancer battle
Bill Turnbull is using an oxygen tank and cannabis oil to treat his inoperable cancer.
The 65-year-old TV presenter was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2017, with the disease spreading to his spine, ribs, pelvis, hips and legs.
Bill has revealed that he has been trying some alternative treatments to help prolong his life, including an £8,000 hyperbaric chamber which helps rid the body of harmful bacteria and release stem cells.
He told The Sun: ‘I’m pretty good at the moment. I had my ups and downs over the winter, but I’m now on a treatment called Lutetium 177. I am also on a hormone called Zoladex.
‘The figures have become very encouraging but next month is quite important because we’re reaching a level which I’ve found hard to break through with my blood figures. If I get below this figure, then things are looking quite good. But it’s just a treatment, it’s not a cure.
‘So I do lots of other things to try to help myself. I now have an oxygen tank here in the house which I use every day, a hyperbaric tank.
‘It’s meant to be good for healing muscles and everything, but I find it very therapeutic. I feel a lot better when I come out.’
The newly announced Good Morning Britain guest presenter has a blood test next month and is hoping his markings will be below 80, having recently got to 96 from 180 recently, which is a ‘good’ sign.
At the start of his cancer battle, Bill’s PSA (prostate-specific antigen) level was a concerning 583.
As well as taking a number of supplements and an intense exercise regimen, the broadcaster eats two garlic cloves a day and quipped that his wife has found other ways of kissing him.
He shared that he is doing supervised exercise twice a week, as well as using an exercise bike three times a week, and walking and doing yoga every day.
Bill also takes turmeric, berberine, black seed oil and honey, and said: ‘I take CBD, the legal form of cannabis, and the capsules are made from hemp. I also eat two cloves of raw garlic.
‘It’s good for the blood but it’s not so good for making friends — and my wife has taken to kissing me in rather a different way now!
Bill will reunite with his BBC Breakfast colleague Susanna Reid on GMB next week, hosting alongside Susanna on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Good Morning Britain editor Neil Thompson said of the announcement: ‘I’m thrilled that Bill is rejoining us behind the GMB desk.
‘It’s not just his brilliant and enduring onscreen partnership with Susanna that makes its mark, it’s his relationship with the audience in general, one based on authenticity, authority, warmth, humour and trust.’
