Biomutant Developers Announce Disappointing News for PlayStation 5

PlayStation 5 users will be devastated to hear the sad news that Experiment 101 has for them. The developers have scrapped the development of Biomutant in Native 4K quality for the PS5 just days before the release.

Developers of the game, THQ Nordic, took to Twitter to reveal the reason for this change. The tweet reads, “Due to technical reasons, we deactivated native 4k on PS5 for the release version of the game.” It also adds that “Biomutant is currently running at native 1080p upscaled to 4k on PS5.”

Xbox Series X having an easier time than PlayStation 5?

While PlayStation seems to be facing yet another backward compatibility issue, it is smooth sailing for their Xbox counterparts. In comparison, the Xbox One version of the game will run at 4K / 60fps “with dynamic resolution” on Series X, and 1440p / 30fps on Series S.

Biomutant now joins Cyberpunk 2077, Star Wars: Squadrons, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Rocket League as games which have received performance updates on the Xbox Series X but not PS5.

Players on last-gen consoles will also miss out on the native version of the game. According to a statement by THQ Nordic, “the PS4/XB1 version already performs better on current-gen due to the more powerful hardware. Native version for current-gen are coming, but we can’t share any more details yet.”

What to expect from Experiment 101’s Biomutant?

The action role-playing game developed by Experiment 101 has its release date set for May 25th. While the game was originally supposed to release in 2019, Experiment 101 put out a statement where they promised to “reveal the release date as soon as everyone at our studio feels confident about hitting that date and that the game is ready for it.”

Developer Experiment 101 says that Biomutant is a “post-apocalyptic Kung-Fu fable RPG” which is a fitting description. Based on the game’s trailer it looks like nothing we have ever seen before. Players will have to navigate the post-apocalyptic world destroyed by an oil spill and craft weapons to defeat enemies.
