Eurovision 2021 viewers label Germany’s performance ‘bizarre’ and Graham Norton less than impressed: ‘This song is like Marmite if everyone hated Marmite’
The German entry for the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest was Jendrick with his song ‘I Don’t Feel Hate’ – and viewers were left confused by his performance.
Jendrick was joined by band members and dancers, with one dressed in an odd hand costume in the shape of a peace sign.
The upbeat track is a missive to haters, as the 26-year-old is telling them that their words will not stop him from living his life.
Despite the positive meaning behind the track, this hasn’t stopped people from expressing their distaste for it.
This includes the UK host Graham Norton, who made his disapproval of the song quite clear.
‘This song is like Marmite if everyone hated Marmite,’ he said.
He’s not alone in his opinion, as many people took to Twitter to share their thoughts.
‘Germany clearly in financial turmoil and fearing a win would make them have to host,’ one person joked.
Many viewers said their entry reminded them too much of children’s television.
‘Have we switched to CBBC for this one by Germany – like something I used to sit and watch as a kid on a Saturday morning,’ a Twitter user wrote.
Another said: ‘Germany, what in the Alphabeat/Kids TV Show is going on?’
Many viewers seemed to be left confused by their performance.
‘The only word that can sum up that performance is bizarre,’ one person wrote.
If Jendrick’s song is anything to go by though, we’re sure he’ll be ignoring all of the haters tonight.
