What do John Cena and Greece’s backup dancer at the Eurovision Song Contest have in common?

You can’t see them.

No, that’s not a joke we ever expected to set free into the world, but Eurovision is a night to expect the unexpected.

Extravagant costumes, bold music and politics – the annual song contest and WWE aren’t actually a world apart, and this year seemed to provide plenty of evidence for that.

In one brilliant example of the internet doing its thing, Greece’s performance sent everyone wild as they featured an ‘invisible’ backup dancer.

It didn’t take long for fans to compare them to wrestler turned Hollywood star Cena, with the jokes flooding in.

One viewer wrote: ‘Forget Flo Rida supporting San Marino, what about John Cena appearing for Greece’?

Another quipped: ‘Greece getting John Cena to be the backing dancer is a hell of a coup’.

And a different fan joked: ‘Glad John Cena is still booking, even if it is a dance job on Eurovision’.

We’re not sure he’s short of offers right now, but fair play!

That wasn’t all for wrestling fans, as Germany’s performance also caught the eye with a giant hand taking part in the routine.

For fans of a certain age, this immediately conjured up memories of Mark Henry and Mae Young having an on-screen child, which turned out to actually just be a hand.

One eagle eyed fan said: ‘Just seen the look back at all the #Eurovision performances and was surprised to see Mae Young and Mark Henry’s offspring performing for Germany.’

‘The UK got beaten by Mae Young’s son,’ teased a viewer.

And yet another joked: ‘Love that Mae Young and Mark Henry’s kid is getting work at #Eurovision’.

We’re not sure what’s next – maybe William Regal can sing Real Man’s Man next year and we might be in with a shot?

Surely it’s worth a try…
