Mel B has revealed that Vernon Kay had an ‘incredibly close call’ when it came to a knife-throwing act on Game Of Talents.

The Spice Girls singer is a guest star in the upcoming episode of the game show, which sees celebrity contestants try to uncover the secret talents of members of the public.

And Mel, 45, has since revealed that Vernon – who presents the programme – ‘looked a bit taken aback by’ a particular act that will appear in the episode.

In a clip released ahead of tonight’s instalment, we see the knife-thrower, who is dressed up as the Queen Of Hearts, proceed to throw a series of sharp-looking knives at Vernon, who is standing behind a giant cut-out card design.

The knife thrower also warns the audience to be quiet during her act ‘because the slightest distraction could be fatal’ – and it’s enough to keep us on the edge of our seats.

Mel explained: ‘My heart almost stopped because it looked shockingly dangerous and seriously I thought he had an incredibly close call which even he looked a bit taken aback by.

‘I don’t think he had planned it like that, to be honest, I was all ready to run for help.’

The star also admitted that appearing on the series helped to bring out her competitive side, although things between her and fellow celeb guest Michelle Visage remained ‘light-hearted’.

She continued: ‘I’m a very competitive person. When I was a kid at school my dad used to take me to the park and train me for sports day and I’d win nearly all the prizes so that’s the sort of person I am.

‘It was why I loved dance so much, because at seven years old I went to this incredible lady in Leeds who would keep moving you from the front row to the second row to the backrow, and I had to stay in the front so I’d practice, practice all the time so keep my spot.

‘Michelle is competitive too but that’s what makes it good fun and we were both pretty light-hearted about it. We just had a good time.’

Game Of Talents continues tonight at 8:30pm on ITV.
