‘I’m Faster and Stronger Than Him’ – Manny Pacquiao Is Not Concerned About Ring Rust Ahead of the Errol Spence Fight

Manny Pacquiao is one of the best boxers of the last two decades. The legendary boxer has conquered eight divisions in the sport and won 12 different world titles. And despite being 42, ‘Pac Man’ is eager to face the best in the sport and show his class.

The Filipino revealed he would face WBC and IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. next. This will be the legendary boxer’s first fight after a two-year hiatus from the sport. However, ‘Pac Man’, who is undeterred by the time out of the sport, has explained why.

The 62-7-2 boxer spoke to Lance Pugmire from The Athletic and said, “I love to challenge the top guy.”

Pacquiao then added, “It’s been two years since I’ve fought. I’m not worried about (ring rust) because a long layoff is good for me after being in boxing for 25 years before that. It’s good to rest. It’s given my body a chance to recover.”

Thus, this comment from the Filipino Senator showed he is happy with the break from the sport. He claimed it would help him more than affect him in the fight against Spence Jr. ‘Pac Man’ also pointed out, “I’m faster and stronger than him.”

Does Manny Pacquiao have a point?

The comments from the 42-year-old showed his confidence in beating ‘The Truth’. Moreover, he explained why he took the bout against one of the P4P best in the sport. However, is he right in not worrying about ring rust?

Pacquiao has experience on his side with 71 professional bouts to his name. Despite this, Spence Jr. will be the favorite for the fight. Unlike Pacquiao, ‘The Truth’ fought Danny Garcia at the back end of 2020 and brushed off his ring rust. However, the time off from the sport certainly affected Spence Jr. in his comeback fight.

Although Pacquiao may be right in saying he is faster and that the rest was good, the hiatus will certainly show in his performance. Despite this, he could counter his ring rust by using his vast experience in the sport. Thus, this makes for an interesting bout between the two fighters with contrasting styles.
