Love Island series 2 cast were offered Brexit referendum votes – and Terry Walsh had an intriguing reaction
Every summer, Love Island sees a whole host of singletons jet away from their normal lives as they attempt to find love (and often provide a whole bunch of drama in the meantime).
However, while they’re usually pretty cut off from the real world during their time on the series, big political events sometimes have an impact on the show.
Iain Stirling, who provides the voice over for the ITV dating series, has revealed that in series two, the islanders were offered postal votes for the Brexit referendum – and star Terry Walsh had quite the unexpected reaction.
‘The Brexit vote happened during series two of Love Island,’ the comic recalled on Rob Beckett and Josh Widdicombe’s Lockdown Parenting Hell podcast.
‘A guy called Terry, amazing man – we offered them the postal votes, I don’t know how many of them took it.
‘Terry said, “It doesn’t bother me that much because I spend six months of the year in Ibiza.”‘
Oh Terry.
The 28-year-old appeared on Love Island alongside the likes of Cara De La Hoyde, Nathan Massey, Alex Bowen and Olivia Buckland.
Earlier this year, he and his girlfriend Danielle Purdy welcomed their first child together.
Iain, who’s also just welcomed a baby daughter with his wife, Love Island presenter Laura Whitmore, went on to explain that the Covid-19 pandemic and Brexit have caused some uncertainty about this year’s series.
‘This is the thing about Covid – we don’t actually know where we’ll be for it,’ the 33-year-old pointed out. ‘A lovely mixture of Covid and Brexit means that going abroad has become all the more…you’ve got a load of forms to fill in and a load of jabs to get.’
Last year’s summer series of Love Island was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, but ITV has confirmed it’s set to return this year.
The broadcaster has yet to announce an exact release date.
But we do have a general idea of when new episodes will be on our screens, with the programme set to premiere in late June and continue throughout July and August.
It’s thought the crew will travel to their destination on June 20, with filming expected to begin a week later.
Metro.co.uk has contacted reps for Terry Walsh for comment.
Love Island will return to ITV2 this summer.
