Pink wishes she ‘could have have reached out more’ to Britney Spears after watching Hulu documentary
Pink has sent her love to Britney Spears and said she wishes she ‘could have reached out more’ after watching Framing Britney Spears.
The documentary focuses on the ongoing legal issues surrounding Britney’s conservatorship, which she has been under since 2008, and the Free Britney movement that is aiming to release the superstar from the constraints of it.
The film, which was released to Hulu in the US, also explores the media coverage Britney received, as well as her very public breakdown in 2007.
During an appearance on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live, Pink, 41, appeared via video link, with a fan asking her on her thoughts about Britney, 39, and her current situation.
She said: ‘I love Britney, and here’s the thing about all of us voyeurs – none of us know what’s going on. We’re not there. And I would like to.
‘I think we all would like to, and we feel this fierce protectiveness over her, for good reason – she’s a sweetheart. All I know is she’s incredibly sweet, and I want her to be happy.’
Pink then confirmed she had watched Framing Britney Spears, and now wishes that she could have lent her support to the Toxic hitmaker during her public struggles.
She went on: ‘I felt sad that back then, back in the early days, I didn’t know… I’m a strong person – I could have reached out more. I could’ve – I don’t know.
‘I don’t like feeling helpless or powerless, and I can only imagine how she feels, and she could have used some support.’
She then added that she wishes she ‘could have reached and out and gave her a hug’.
It comes after Billie Piper recently revealed she was left so angry by the documentary, she was unable to finish it.
While Billie concedes she was ‘quite locally famous’, having risen to fame as a teen pop star around the same time Britney did in the US, the wider conversation about being ‘hung out to dry’ as a female left her reeling.
Speaking to NME, the actress explained: ‘[The film] made me so angry that I had to turn it off. I know what a lot of that feels like, but she had it on a whole different level. She was world famous, whereas I was quite locally famous.
‘It makes me really angry, because a lot of that isn’t what it’s like to be a famous person, it’s what it feels like to be female and be called mad because you’re driven mad by something.’
She continued: ‘You’re not born crazy. You’re driven mad by certain things. Then you’re used and hung out to dry.
‘That’s what made me feel cross and sad.’
