Strictly bosses launch new bid to sign BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker

STRICTLY bosses have launched a fresh bid to sign BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker for this year’s series, The Sun on Sunday can reveal.

Sources say casting chiefs, who have approached Dan, 44, for previous series, are keen to get him on board after his exit from Football Focus after 12 years.

And they are said to be pulling out all the stops to persuade him to sign up.

A source said last night: “Dan would be a great fit for Strictly.

“He’s hugely popular thanks to his work on BBC Breakfast and Sport.

“He has fans across a range of age groups, he is charismatic and also a real family man.

“And crucially he now has a clear diary on Saturdays.

“He is one of our top targets for this year’s cast.”

Dan, who filmed his last episode for Football Focus yesterday, has previously spoken about being approached for the ballroom show.

But the 6ft6in star said he had been put off by concerns he was too tall.

He said: “The problem is, I’ve got a big wingspan. I’d need a big dance floor!”
