Another added: “Eamon it’s a good memory, focus on new ones, so when you are old, you will never be completely alone. I hope you are getting better”

A third said: “Thanks for this reminder to enjoy the moment.”

The presenter has been fighting chronic pain that left him hospitalised earlier this year.

Speaking about his “three slipped discs” on Loose Women last month, he said: “I actually have to come on here with a crutch, that’s the way I am at the moment.

“I’ve got steroid injections and everything’s okay, and hopefully I’ll be on the mend.

“Chronic pain, no matter what causes it – it doesn’t discriminate between whether you’re young or a man or woman or whatever.

“I couldn’t sleep at night, I just couldn’t sleep. Lying there at night, trying to get to sleep while Ruth was sound asleep beside me. Honestly it was awful.”

He continued: “I’m six weeks down the road with that and I’ve got the injections, which has taken away the acute pain.

“I can sleep and that’s a blessing, absolutely great. But the physicality of not being able to walk straight…

“I’m going to embark on a whole rehabilitation programme, I’ll get fit, I’ll get strong. It will take a while.”

Ruth explained it had been “difficult” for them and it will be a “long road” until he is recovered.

The 61-year-old has been in agony for weeks after dislocating his pelvis which led to his back being out of alignment, but he is now slowly on the mend.
