“It Hurts”: Kirsten Flipkens Announces Unfortunate News Ahead of French Open 2021

With the successful completion of the Emilia-Romagna Open and Lyon Open 2021, it is now time for the French Open 2021. Fans are quite excited for the major as it is happening at its usual time this year. However, just before its beginning, they received some sad news as Kirsten Flipkens has decided to withdraw from the Grand Slam.

It is evident that Kirsten Flipkens is not fully fit right now and as a result, decided to skip the French Open 2021. In a tweet, she mentioned that she recently suffered from an ankle injury which forced her to withdraw from the tournament.

“Unfortunately, I have to announce my withdrawal from Roland Garros due to my ankle injury. I want to be able to be 100% and to give myself 100% when I’m stepping on the court,” said Flipkens in a tweet.

Flipkens claimed that she’ll only step on the court once she is 100% fit. Even though nobody knows about the extent of her injury as of now, fans expect her to be back on the court as soon as possible.

“The 1st slam I will be missing in many years“: Kirsten Flipkens

Flipkens is surely disappointed that she is not going to play at the French Open 2021. Interestingly, it is after several years that she is about to miss a Grand Slam.

“Of course it hurts to withdrawal from a grand slam. The 1st slam I will be missing in many years,” added the Belgian player.

Flipkens hasn’t been up to the mark when it comes to playing at Roland Garros. Her best performance there was in 2018 when she managed to reach the second round. However, she still likes to play at the tournament and impress her fans.

After Simona Halep’s recent withdrawal, fans will certainly be unhappy with Flipken’s recent news. However, they hope that the 35-year-old will recover back soon so that they can witness her powerful forehands once again. Will Flipkens be able to make a comeback before the Wimbledon Championships 2021?
