“I’ve Had the Pace All Weekend” – Carlos Sainz Believes He Can Win at Monaco
On Saturday, Carlos Sainz was bitterly disappointed to miss out on a chance for pole at Monaco. This was because teammate and pole-sitter Charles Leclerc crashed out and brought out a red flag. It came as a big blow for the rest of the field, as many drivers were on quick laps, including Sainz.
Speaking to Sky Sports after qualifying, he said, “Definitely frustrating and tough to accept. It’s not like every day of your life you get a chance to go for a pole lap around Monaco. To not even have that opportunity on the second run is tremendously frustrating.
“I’m disappointed because I’ve had the pace all weekend to be on the front row.”
Sainz Jr acknowledged that bagging pole depended on many factors, namely himself, Charles Leclerc or Max Verstappen putting in fast laps.

The Spaniard was especially furious because he does not know whether he will get a chance again. Now, he admitted that he will simply have to go for it. Sainz Jr is also confident that he has the pace to win the race. However, he knows that he is starting fourth, and that does not make things easy for him.
The 26-year-old assured that he is high on confidence and he will want to look back on this race fondly. At the end of the day, Carlos Sainz Jr went into the race with the knowledge that he could have put the car on pole. This is why is was truly disappointing for him to start from fourth.
At least he can take comfort in the fact that he is able to be on par with Charles Leclerc. On the other end of the scale, he declared that it was too early to look at the bigger picture. Now, all he can do is keep his head down and charge during the race.
Unfortunately, Sainz is flying the flag for Ferrari alone now. This is because poor old Charles Leclerc was forced to retire, before the race even began, due to a suspected driveshaft failure.
