Mercedes, Not Me, Have Lessons to Learn From Monaco GP Flop: Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton recorded his worst F1 points finish since the 2019 German Grand Prix after he could only record 6 points, courtesy of a 7th-placed finish in Monaco.

But he does not blame himself for his plight, rather the most successful team of the turbo-hybrid era, Mercedes. Hamilton was notably unhappy with his think-tank yesterday.

And race day was no different, taking a jibe at his team, the circuit kingpin said, “For me personally, no. The team, for sure.”

When asked to shed more light on the same, he replied, “I haven’t spoken to them yet, so I don’t know where everything went wrong but…”

This comes after he highlighted the need to have ‘tough discussions’ with his team during the post-qualifying interviews. He could only qualify in 7th place, as opposed to his teammate, Valtteri Bottas. Hence, the issue solely lay on his side of the garage.

Apparently, there were some set-up changes relating to tire warm-up. According to Team Principal, Toto Wolff, the Briton wanted to go in a different direction with the set-up, but his team overruled him and it clearly went terribly wrong.

Lewis Hamilton does not expect much at ‘another Red Bull track’ in Baku

Before coming to this weekend in Monte Carlo, Red Bull were anointed as the favorites. And Hamilton expects Baku, another street track, to be no different. On being asked if it will suit the car any better, he replied,

“No, it is another Red Bull track. So, it would be hard to beat them again there but we’ll try our best. I can’t see it being hugely dissimilar to here. Except that you have got the longer straights where usually Ferrari is a little bit down; it will be interesting.”
