VIDEO: An Emotional Josh Taylor Embraces His Former Trainer After Becoming the Undisputed Champion

Josh Taylor etched himself in the history books after he became only the sixth boxer to hold all four belts, and the first ever British fighter to become an undisputed champion. ‘The Tartan Tornado’ lived up to his words and achieved the biggest feat in the sport.

Taylor fought Jose Ramirez with the chance to become the undisputed champion in the junior-welterweight division. He went into the bout as the slight favorite, and he certainly delivered. He dismantled the Mexican-American fighter to win by unanimous decision.

While all the headlines focus on Taylor’s incredible success, the 18-0 boxer did not forget where it all started for him. iFL TV posted a video on their YouTube channel that showed an emotional Taylor hugging and thanking his former coach, Terry McCormack, after his victory over Ramirez.

McCormack does not train ‘The Tartan Tornado’ anymore; however, he was the one who got the ball rolling for the Scotsman. McCormack was in Taylor’s corner from his amateur days to the Olympics and Commonwealth games. Moreover, he was also the man behind Taylor winning his two world titles.

Josh Taylor and his incredible loyalty

The Scotsman is now training with Tyson Fury’s former trainer, Ben Davison. And although he has spoken about how Davison has changed the scenario, the video showed he still respects McCormack and holds him in very high regard. However, this is no surprise given Taylor’s loyalty.

The newly crowned undisputed champion is very loyal to his roots. He fights proudly for his home nation of Scotland and even wears the Tartan pattern trunks in every fight. Moreover, his love for the soccer team, Hibernian FC, has been constant since he was a little boy.

Therefore, it is no surprise to see McCormack in his dressing room. ‘The Tartan Tornado’ knows the role his former trainer played in his success and showed his gratitude for it. In addition, this also confirmed that the two are still close despite the split.
