Floyd Mayweather vs Victor Ortiz (September 17, 2011)

Following two non-title bouts, Mayweather returned in a bout for the WBC welterweight championship against Victor Ortiz in September 2011. It wasn’t an easy night by any means as Ortiz charged Mayweather brilliantly, revealing a lot of holes in his game. After a brief span, Mayweather looked beatable inside the ring. Mr. ‘Vicious’ was all over Mayweather. He unleashed a lopsided display in round four.

While ‘Money May’ was cornered with brutal shots, Ortiz made a slight mistake that turned out to be costly. He planted a head-butt which urged the referee to step up and separate both men.

It gave a break to the one-sided show, and Mayweather appeared vexed with his rival. However, Ortiz apologized right away and was fine with a point being deducted. But Mayweather had unique plans on his mind.

As the referee brought both men to the center of the ring, Victor Ortiz stepped forward to hug Mayweather. But the undefeated star responded with two back-to-back punches. Ortiz, who wasn’t ready, hit the canvas, prompting the referee to end the bout. Hence, Mayweather was awarded the win via KO.

Floyd Mayweather received large-scale resentment from the combat universe for his punch. To this day several fans believe that Ortiz could have beaten Mayweather. Nevertheless, it didn’t happen and the Mexican-American went down as one of Mayweather’s 50 victims.
