WATCH: Vettel Overjoyed On Team Radio After First Points for Aston Martin F1

As the curtains draw to a close on the Monaco Grand Prix, one of the happiest drivers is Sebastian Vettel. Enduring a torrid start to 2021, the German finally scored his first points of the season with a P5 finish.

His teammate, Lance Stroll, finished P8 to complete a much-needed double-points finish for Aston Martin. The German expressed delight on the radio after the race, which included an effective strategy from the team.

Sebastian Vettel relieved to get his first points in the bag

A sensational drive by the German got him 10 points today, which made him a relieved man. The man driving car #5 gave Aston Martin its highest finish this season, with the team taking 19 points away in total.

The German was also voted as the ‘Driver of the Day’, ahead of Sergio Perez, with 23% of the votes.

Vettel was overjoyed with the double-points finish, which he also made clear on the team radio. He said, “Finally, some points in the bag! Finally, some points, thank you! Big points! Great job guys, thank you!”

Vettel happy with the team’s strategy

While Vettel finished P5, his teammate Lance Stroll finished P8. This marks Aston Martin’s first double-points finish in 2021, which might just be what they need to get back in the midfield battle.

Their strategy worked wonders, with an overcut putting Vettel ahead of Lewis Hamilton after pitting in Lap 33. In addition, they worked an overcut on Stroll as well, which helped him keep P8 in the race.

The four-time world champion expressed his delight on the post-race team radio, appreciating the strategy. “Yes boys! Tough race, but well managed. Nice one, nice overcut. Car was great this afternoon, thank you!” said Vettel.

With the teams now heading to Baku, Vettel seems to have found his confidence again. Is this the sign of better times for the German this season?
