2021 F1 Championship Standings After Verstappen’s Dominant Monaco Grand Prix Win

The 2021 Monaco Grand Prix has officially wrapped up in the principality. Red Bull driver Max Verstappen triumphed at the street circuit, ahead of Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and McLaren’s Lando Norris. With Lewis Hamilton all the way down in seventh place, this was Verstappen’s best chance of scoring one over the Briton.

Heading into the Grand Prix, Hamilton had a 14-point lead over the Dutchman. With the victory, Verstappen has leapfrogged Hamilton and established a 4-point lead over the Briton. Verstappen currently leads with 105 points to Hamilton‘s 101, with Lando Norris trailing them on 56 points.

Meanwhile, Valtteri Bottas has been bumped down to fourth place on 47 points. The Finn endured a nightmare race after a jammed wheel nut forced him to retire from the race. This puts him in a vulnerable position with Sergio Perez three points behind him. Ferrari duo, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, are also closing in.

How does the rest of the F1 pack line up after the Monaco Grand Prix?

Sainz Jr definitely got a massive points boost with his maiden Ferrari podium. However, the opposite is true for Daniel Ricciardo, who finished outside the points. Meanwhile, Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon completed the top 10 on 16 and 12 points, respectively. Another big mover is Sebastian Vettel, who notched up his first points finish of the season; he snatched a fine fifth place at the Monaco Grand Prix.

The German driver sits one point ahead of his teammate, Lance Stroll in the drivers’ championship. Other drivers in the points are Fernando Alonso, Yuki Tsunoda, and Antonio Giovinazzi. Meanwhile, Kimi Raikkonen, Nicholas Latifi, George Russell, Mick Schumacher, and Nikita Mazepin are still point-less in 2021.

On the constructor’s front, the absence of Valtteri Bottas really hit Mercedes hard. This was because Red Bull’s double points finish saw them take the lead of the championship by a single point. Meanwhile, there is a close battle for third, with two points separating McLaren from Ferrari. Additionally, Aston Martin have a 1-point lead over AlphaTauri and two points over Alpine Racing.
