Bill Turnbull wasted no time in making a subtle jab at Piers Morgan as he replaced him on Good Morning Britain, jokingly threatening to ‘storm off’ set.

The former BBC Breakfast presenter reunited with his old colleague Susanna Reid on Monday’s GMB, which he’ll be guest hosting this week.

Of course, he’s filling in for Piers who quit the ITV show in March after receiving over 41,000 complaints about his comments on Meghan Markle and her interview with Oprah Winfrey

Piers’ departure from the programme came a day after he now infamously stormed off the GMB set during a heated clash with Alex Beresford, who challenged him over his constant criticism of Meghan.

As he took Piers’ seat on Monday, Bill almost channelled his predecessor by getting into little harmless scraps with Susanna over their time-keeping. Bill repeatedly tried to move the interviews on but his co-host kept following up with questions.

‘It’s because we had to keep to time at the BBC,’ Susanna informed viewers as Bill looked a little frustrated.

They were all laughs when they returned from ad-break but Bill then joked: ‘For a moment I thought I was going to have to storm out the studio.’

When Susanna pulled an awkward face clearly realising the nod to Piers, he added: ‘Oh, embarrassed silence. Here’s Charlotte with the latest headlines…’

Bill recently said he wouldn’t try to emulate Piers while sitting in his former chair, and explained: ‘Well, I’m not thinking, ‘What would Piers do about this, what would Piers do about that?’” he scoffed.

“I’m just playing my own game.’

Praising his longtime friend Susanna, he said: ‘I love Susanna. We have a mutual respect and have known one another over 20 years.

‘She is so talented, works very hard. And now that she’s getting more sunlight, she can blossom.’

Earlier in Monday’s episode, Bill left Susanna blushing after making an accidental sex joke.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
