“Colby Covington Was Not My Toughest Fight”- Kamaru Usman Makes a Bizarre Statement

Kamaru Usman has established himself as a dominant champion with his performances recently. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ has defended his belt twice this year already and in both fights, violently stopped his opponents to reliant the welterweight crown and in the process broke multiple records. 

However, in his reign as a champion thus far, Usman faced the most adversity in his very first title defense against arch-rival Colby Covington. Although Covington pushed him all the way to the last round, Usman was able to secure a finish in the dying minutes of the last round, to defend his belt in style. A lot of fans believe that it was without a doubt the toughest fight of Usman’s career. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ does not agree.

Will we see Colby Covington vs Kamaru Usman 2 this year?

Recently, the welterweight champion went live on Instagram to answer questions from his fans. A fan asked the champion if Colby Covington was his toughest fight to date. 

Usman replied, “Uh no, it’s funny Colby was not my toughest fight. Everyone keeps saying that, it just looked like it was the toughest fight because it was more of a back and forth. Now the reason there was a back and forth with Colby is because I chose to fight a particular way.” 

‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ continued, “I did not care about winning, I did not care about what was going on…..  The reason Colby’s fight looked like that was cause I threw everything out of the window and I said I am going to hurt this man. So I was perfectly content with standing there and trading punches until one of us fell down. And one of us died in there.”

UFC supremo Dana White has stated on multiple occasions that the first fight between the two men is one of the greatest fights he has ever seen. He also stated that Colby Covington would be next in line for Usman. However, the champion was not too upbeat about the idea.
