‘He’s Not Very Relevant Right Now’- Jack Hermansson Dismisses the Idea of Fighting Luke Rockhold

UFC middleweight Jack Hermansson spoke to the media following his unanimous decision win at UFC Fight Night: Font vs Garbrandt. ‘The Joker’ faced early adversity when he battled Edmen Shahbazyan in the opening match-up for the six-fight main card. However, Hermansson proved that his experience facing higher caliber fighters won him the day.

Jack Hermansson suffered a setback in his previous outing against Marvin Vettori and was keen to get back on track. With his win over Shahbazyan, Jack Hermansson solidified his status and he’ll be looking at a big fight next. There are several middleweight fights that are enticing and you can’t go wrong with the match-making for that weight class.

What’s Next for Jack ‘The Joker’ Hermansson?

Hermansson was asked about his plans for the future, and the Swedish fighter was open to all options. Additionally, he was presented with the idea of possibly facing Luke Rockhold who’s looking to make a comeback as an opponent. However, Rockhold having an extended lay-off from the sport didn’t seem to make him an imaginative option for Hermansson.

“I want to be fighting guys like Robert Whittaker. I would love to fight Paulo Costa you know, the winner of Brunson and Till could be a potential fight so yeah those guys.”

“He [Rockhold] has been away for so long so I don’t know. He’s a former..  he might be an interesting guy, think a little bit about that but he has been gone for a long time so maybe he’s not very relevant right now. I would prefer it if he fought someone else first and if he’s still in the game, still up there I would love to fight him.”

Rockhold’s resume speaks for itself and his position as a former UFC and Strike Force champion isn’t to be ignored. However, he’s not been a major player for several years and the divisional landscape has changed. Once Rockhold makes his presence known at middleweight once more, the contenders will be lining up to face him.
