Kamaru Usman Makes His Pick Between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov

Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov are two of the very best fighters at lightweight. Although their performances recently have been on opposite ends of the spectrum. On their day both men are talented enough to beat almost anyone at lightweight. MMA fans often argue about who is better of the two and it is a topic that will be debated long after both men retire from the sport.

During his ascension to the top of the lightweight division, McGregor put on one of the most impressive championship-winning displays. Since then he has not won a fight at lightweight having fought twice and falling short both times. He will be aiming to turn that around when he faces Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in a few month’s time.

Can Conor McGregor win back the lightweight title?

In a recent live session on his Instagram page, Kamaru Usman answered a hotly debated question in MMA. Khabib or Conor?

Usman replied, “Conor….(laughs) lies, Khabib Nine-nine point nine nine nine nine nine nine nine nine nine nine nine nine nine nine nine nine nine nine nine nine nine nine nine nine nine nine nine nine nine % percent of the time.” Usman and Nurmagomedov are managed by the same company and have spent a considerable amount of time training together. Therefore, although Usman’s answer may have been biased, he has trained with ‘The Eagle’ and therefore also makes a pick based on experience.

For ‘The Notorious‘, the fight against Dustin Poirier could be a make or break for his title ambitions. Dustin Poirier knocked out Conor McGregor in the rematch, becoming the first person ever to do so. This means that ‘The Notorious’ is 3-2 in his last five fights.

The winner of the fight will most likely get the next title shot and therefore there is a lot on the line. For McGregor, another loss will be detrimental to his title ambitions. It will also prompt the notion that he is ‘finished’ and ‘not the same anymore’

McGregor will be aiming to rectify a few areas where he fell short last time out. He has stopped Dustin once before, albeit at a different weight class. However, there is no reason why ‘The Notorious’ can not do it at lightweight at UFC 264.
