Renault Troll George Russell as the Clio Cup is Announced for 2021 French Grand Prix
George Russell and Renault Clio Cup. These two entities go hand-in-hand like tea and biscuits. Ever since the dramatic events involving Russell unfolded in Imola last month and Toto Wolff hilariously threatened to demote him to the Renault Clio Cup, this topic has become a running joke. And Renault today capitalized on an important announcement to make yet another reference.
Renault World Series, responsible for handling the social media activities pertaining to the Renault Clio Cup announced its addition as a support race for the French Grand Prix.
Since the F1 community will be present at the Paul Ricard Circuit during that weekend (18-20th June), they called on George Russell to officially take part.
Next month, we’ll be one step closer to George Russell and to make your wildest dream come true as the #ClioCup Europe will support the Formula 1 Emirates #FrenchGP 2021 (18-20 June).

This comes after Mercedes Team Principal, Toto Wolff, brought the Clio Cup into the limelight in Imola. After George Russell’s crash with Valtteri Bottas, Wolff hilariously threatened to demote him to the Clio Cup.
To this Renault, themselves responded on Twitter last month; offering to pay the entry-level fees for George Russell if his Mercedes manager obliged. It remains to be seen if the young Briton actually follows up with this or not.
Can George Russell be actually allowed to take part in Renault Clio Cup?
Now that it is officially part of an F1 race weekend, it is not unrealistic for him to take part. But there are a lot of questions to be answered before this thing can actually materialize.
Firstly, Russell is contractually obligated to the Mercedes group. Since Clio Cup is an exclusive event of Renault, we can sense a conflict of interest. But, it is important to note that Esteban Ocon, who is still represented by Toto Wolff, is also a Renault driver.

So, it could be well that the two parties work out an arrangement for the French GP. Wolff is not someone who lets a marketing opportunity slip by. Weirder things have happened, so we are not ruling out the possibility of him actually participating.
