Bake Off: The Professionals has had its first elimination of the 2021 series after some more tough challenges.

The baking competition is back with another helping, putting professional pastry chefs through their paces under the stern eye of judges Cherish Finden and Benoit Blin.

Hosts Liam Charles and Tom Allen are back as hosts overseeing the chaos and chocolatey creations once more.

At the end of the first episode the presenters revealed the pairing who would be sent home first were long time colleagues Alex and Stacey.

The pair said they wanted to show their students at the College of East Englia how to pick themselves up and improve after making mistakes.

Stacey said after their exit: ‘We’ve had a fantastic few days. It’s been eye opening, stressful, hard work but amazing.

‘We’re not afraid of failure, you can only rebuild, pick yourself up and get better from your mistakes.’

Alex and Stacey had a tough time in Tuesday night’s episode, struggling with nearly every task.

Their reinvented jaffa cakes were blasted by Cherish and Benoit after they ran out of time to make them as well as they wanted to.

Noting they did not have the correct amount of cakes, Cherish added: ‘Looking at your jaffa cake, it look a bit of a car crash.’

‘You could almost believe it was yuzu in there it’s so sharp,’ her co-judge added.

Unfortunately their showstopper sculpture that incorporated the flavours of strawberries and cream didn’t fare much better as Benoit called it ‘confused’ with Cherish stating: ‘Think you have to change it completely.’

Bake Off: The Professionals airs Tuesdays at 8pm on Channel 4.
