Brawn Had Serious Doubts About Vettel After Initial Aston Martin F1 Woes
The world finally saw the return of Sebastian Vettel in the Monaco Grand Prix. After a disappointing start to life at Aston Martin, the German notched up his first points of the season with a P5 finish on Sunday.
Vettel had enough doubters ahead of Monaco after his struggles in the previous four races. One of those doubters was F1’s Managing Director, Ross Brawn. In his regular post-race column, the Briton wrote about how the Monaco weekend changed his previously ongoing perspective on Vettel.
Had my doubts on Sebastian Vettel: Ross Brawn
Vettel seemed to be off-color coming into the Monaco Grand Prix weekend. After a disappointing season with Ferrari in 2020, he moved to Aston Martin hoping to turn his fortunes around. However, he finished no higher than 13th in the first four races of the season. In addition, his teammate, Lance Stroll, was the only driver to score points for the team.
In the Ross Brawn Column, the 66-year-old admits to doubting Vettel given his terrible run of form heading into Monaco. The Briton wrote, “I will openly admit I’ve had my doubts about him in recent times and he’s been a bit lacklustre in his final years at Ferrari and then when he joined Aston Martin.”

Brawn believes Vettel showed his capability in Monaco
Although he doubted him before the race, Brawn was pleased to see Vettel return to his best in Monaco. He applauded Vettel for a strong performance in the Principality while letting everyone know what he is capable of.
The Briton said, “In Monaco, Sebastian definitely found his mojo. His performance in the race was very strong and reminded us of what we had come to expect from the four-time world champion.”
With the next race in Baku, many will expect another strong showing from Vettel. Baku often hosts an unpredictable race, and given the battles this season, June 4 looks to be no different. Can Vettel add more points to his tally in the “Land of Fire”?
