Diversity stars Jordan Banjo and Perri Kiely still face nasty comments over Diversity’s Britain’s Got Talent performance eight months on with people accusing them of racism.

The BGT dance troupe returned to the programme that launched their careers In September 2020 for a special performance which touched on the coronavirus pandemic and the Black Lives Matter protests last summer, in the wake of the death of George Floyd. In the face of 31,000 Ofcom complaints, it was defended by ITV.

The pair, as well as Diversity leader Ashley Banjo, have spoken openly about the negative reaction to the routine they received at the time. Ashley told the Sunday Times he was subjected to 100 abusive, racist tweets a minute at the eye of the storm.

Jordan and Perri say it is still carrying on, with Jordan revealing he gets comments from people who refuse to watch anything he is involved in. Worse still, there are viewers who think he and brother Ashley ‘are the same person’.

He told The Mirror: ‘I still get messages and stuff all the time like if I’m going on a TV show or if I am promoting something, they’ll be like, “oh I am not watching that, Banjo the racist is on there”.

‘A lot of people confuse me and Ashley as well. They just assume me and Ashley are the same person.’

They add that they didn’t really fear for their personal safety at any point but Jordan and Ashley were concerned for their children when ‘psychos’ made threats targeted at them.

‘Not to sound cocky but if we are walking down the street as a group of guys, Perri is 6ft3, I’m 6ft5, Ash is 6ft6. We’re not shy of confrontation,’ Jordan added.

Speaking about the worrying remarks made about his children, Jordan previously told The British Entrepreneur podcast: ‘When I’m sat at home and you’re telling me really horrible stuff like “your kids are so ugly, they should die”, “I hope your kids get caught in a house fire”.

‘It’s crazy stuff, mad – especially since last year when we did that performance on BGT. From then, it was like a red rag to a bull.’
