How Many French Open Titles Has Serena Williams Won?

Serena Williams is inarguably one of the greatest players of all time. The Tennis Queen has dominated the sport for the last two decades and has won a whopping 23 majors in her career so far. Even though fans and experts both believe that Williams is not that great on clay, she has some stunning numbers on the surface.

In her career so far, Serena Williams has won 3 French Open titles in the singles category. Interestingly, she has won 2 French Open titles in the doubles category along with her sister, Venus Williams, as well. In addition, Serena has also been a runner-up in the mixed doubles category at Roland Garros in 1998.

Williams has reached the French Open finals 4 times in her career so far. She has only lost the finals once in 2016 when Garbine Muguruza crushed her in straight sets and the American failed to defend her title.

Serena won her first French Open title in 2002. In the finals, she thrashed her sister Venus in straight sets. The final scoreline of the match was 7-5, 6-3. It was the second Grand Slam title for a 20-year-old Serena and she felt really amazing after her victory there.

When Serena Williams conquered two French Open titles in three years

World No.8 Serena reached her second Roland Garros finals in 2013. Surprisingly, she steamrolled over the defending champion Maria Sharapova in the finals and won her second French Open title. With this, Serena registered her name in the history books as she became one of those few players who have won each major at least twice.

The French Open 2014 proved to be a nightmare for her as she lost to Muguruza in the second round itself. However, she bounced back and won her third Roland Garros title in 2015 after defeating Lucie Safarova in the finals. It was also the last French Open title that Serena won. After that in 2016, she ended as the runner-up of the tournament and couldn’t defend her title.

Serena Williams has surely been one of the most prolific players in the history of the sport. However, her recent performances on clay make it evident that she has got to improve a lot. Will Serena be able to rise again and win the French Open 2021 title?
