Lewis Hamilton Explains Why He’s “Grateful” for Disastrous F1 Weekend in Monaco

Mercedes are always favorites to win at a Grand Prix every weekend. However, things were different for the Silver Arrows this weekend, as Valtteri Bottas had to retire from the race, and Lewis Hamilton finished in seventh place. Despite making his frustration known, the Knight is looking at the bright side of it all; he is grateful to score some points that can play a role in their hunt for the title.

Due to their brilliant performance at Monte Carlo, courtesy of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez, who finished first and fourth, respectively, Red Bull lead the table with 149 points. Their rivals, Mercedes, are second in line, just one point adrift.

Lewis Hamilton shows humbleness in defeat after Monaco Grand Prix

As quoted by the Guardian, Hamilton said, “It’s going to be tough, they have a championship-winning car and they will be very hard to beat. I have been serious about this all year. It’s not over, there is a long, long way to go.

“I am grateful we finished and got some points and the fastest lap. Every point you can get on a bad weekend like this can count towards something at the end.”

He added, “We have a very open discussion, open and honest. The reason we have all these championships is we make plenty of mistakes but we always come back stronger and learn from them.

“I am often grateful for days like this because you learn the most. If you are winning all the time you learn less and there is a lot to learn from this weekend. We don’t have all the answers but it will force us to search for them,” Lewis concluded.

Toto Wolff shares his thoughts on the disastrous Monaco race

Team principal of Mercedes, Toto Wolff is used to winning at every race, but when things don’t go his way, his emotions get the better of him. And so, he didn’t hold back after tasting defeat in Monte Carlo.

Speaking to Sky Sports. Wolff said, “I’d like to cry right now, but that wouldn’t be productive. The whole weekend was forgotten. But we have to do exactly the opposite. We have to put our heads together and find out why we feel it all weekend lacked pace.

The Brackley-based squad would aim to get back on top of the championship and hope that they can score maximum points in the upcoming race in Baku at the start of June.
