Lewis Hamilton ‘Not Completely Happy’ at Monaco: Hill

This past weekend, Lewis Hamilton endured a nightmare race at the 2021 Monaco Grand Prix. While Max Verstappen won ahead of Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris, Hamilton could only muster a paltry seventh place. Naturally, he was furious with himself and the team for the less-than-stellar result.

In light of this, former F1 champion Damon Hill spoke about his compatriot. He said, “He [Hamilton] said, at one point, he was overdriving the car. You never hear him talk about his performance in such basic term. Almost like a rookie mistake. When he does, he does overdrive on the first day he nearly always overdoes it.

“He drives quite raggedy on the first day, but he never got that flow this weekend.”

Lewis Hamilt0n needs to bounce back at the next race

In all his visits to the Principality in Mercedes garb, Hamilton has only won twice. On other occasions, he has fallen short, losing to Nico Rosberg in 2015, Sebastian Vettel in 2017, and Daniel Ricciardo in 2018. When he raced for McLaren, he only ever won once – all the way back in 2008.

Now, he will know that there is no use crying over spilled milk. Instead, the Mercedes driver will have to make sure to come back stronger. Admittedly, the Azerbaijan race is another track where Mercedes tend to struggle. However, Hamilton did win the 2018 edition of the race, and will hope for a repeat.

In the meantime, Max Verstappen will not want to rest on his laurels at Monaco. The Dutch star will be hard at work, training for the race on the Baku street circuit. Another driver who will be eager to recover from a poor Monaco Grand Prix is Valtteri Bottas. At a time when he was supposed to take the lead role for Mercedes, an agonizingly long pit stop ruined everything.
