Monaco GP: Norris Lapping Ricciardo Made Brundle “Wince”

Daniel Ricciardo cannot seem to catch a break this season. With a P12 finish the Monaco Grand Prix, the pressure is mounting on the Australian to deliver with McLaren this season.

He qualified and finished in P12, despite two drivers ahead of him retiring from the race; however, Ricciardo’s woes did not end there. His teammate, Lando Norris, lapped him in Monaco en route to claiming his second podium of the season. This was one of the most painful moments in Ricciardo’s time at McLaren, with ex-F1 driver Martin Brundle giving his reaction to the Australian’s poor Monaco outing.

With just 24 points from five races, Ricciardo is enduring tough times in 2021. Although he has shown flashes of real speed, his overall performance has been underwhelming so far. His outing in Monaco didn’t fare any different, despite winning the race in 2018.

Martin Brundle, who now commentates F1 races, admits he winced when he saw Norris lap Ricciardo in Monaco. The Briton wrote, “Monaco GP winner Daniel Ricciardo had a nightmare event finishing 12th and lapped by his team-mate Norris.

“That made me wince so I can’t imagine the pain he is feeling right now as he struggles with the characteristics of the McLaren versus his driving style.”

Can Daniel Ricciardo turn his season around in Baku?

The streets of Baku tend to throw up a crazy race, which has fans on the edge of their seats. Ricciardo is no stranger to the craziness of Baku; in fact, he has a checkered history on this track.

Although he won an eventful race in 2017 with Red Bull, he crashed into his teammate, Max Verstappen, in 2018. That crash sent the Australian’s Red Bull career in a downward spiral, before he left for Renault at the end of the season.

If there is one track where Ricciardo can make a comeback, it is Baku. Can the Australian find his lost form and confidence on June 4?
