Charlotte Church is swapping singing for home renovations as she sets about revamping fashion designer Laura Ashley’s former home for a new TV series.

The TV show, which currently has the working title Charlotte Church: Building the Dream, will see the singer attempt to accomplish her dream of giving the property a new lease of life.

After Charlotte, 35, fell in love with the former home of highly influential Welsh fashion designer Laura, who died in 1980 at the age of 60, she decided to buy the property, which is worth £1.5million and spans 49 acres in Elan Valley, Wales.

In the reality programme, which will follow both Charlotte and her family, the Welsh singer – who first found fame during her childhood – will strive to renovate the property into a holiday retreat, a wellness centre and a wedding venue.

This will be no easy feat, as Charlotte gets in on the renovation work, with walls being stripped down and staircases being ripped apart.

Fortunately, Charlotte’s stepfather, James, is a builder, so will be able to provide valuable expertise during the mega refurbishment.

What’s more, James also ran a hotel with Charlotte’s mother, Maria, and so has experience in the service industry that could prove useful to his stepdaughter’s new venture.

Charlotte expressed her excitement over the project, saying she feels ‘so grateful to have been able to buy this house’.

‘I’m absolutely obsessed with the woodlands and the outside space’ she said.

‘It’s such a special place. I’m really curious about the process of developing the wellness retreat and all the upskilling I’ll be learning about building – I hope!’

Clare Laycock from Discovery UK and Ireland said she feels ‘delighted’ over the new TV series, which is set to launch on Really and Discovery Plus at some point later this year.

‘Charlotte Church is one of the UK’s most talented, down to Earth, and recognisable television personalities, and I can’t wait to see the progress she makes in taking on this mammoth challenge,’ Clare said.

‘Charlotte’s warm and friendly personality will really strike a chord with Really’s passionate audience, who will no doubt be cheering her on every step of the way!’

Charlotte has been married to musician Johnny Powell since 2017, with whom she shares a daughter born in August 2020.

The singer also has two children from her previous relationship to ex-fiancé Gavin Henson – 13-year-old Ruby and 12-year-old Dexter.

Charlotte Church: Building the Dream will premiere on Really and Discovery Plus later this year.
