Dexter star Jamie Chung has teased that the upcoming reboot will be ‘darker’ than previously seen.

The actress has joined the cast of Showtime’s 10-episode drama as famous true-crime podcaster Holly, and will star alongside Michael C Hall’s Dexter, who is now going by a whole new identity.

Speaking about what viewers can expect, Jamie revealed: ‘The original series happened over 10 years ago. So there’s certainly a different vibe of the way the actual show is shot in terms of the aesthetic.

‘I do think it’s a little darker. It takes place in upstate New York and as we know from the last season, Dexter’s hiding.’

She added to People: ‘So it certainly carries on and you have a lot of fresh faces, but a lot of familiar ones. I think it will certainly satisfy everyone’s appetite. Especially if you’re a big Dexter fan.’

The new chapter of Dexter was announced in October, with Hall revealing earlier this year that he hopes the new season will make up for the divisive ‘unsatisfying’ finale.

Last month, a teaser linked the season eight finale by putting Dexter back in the woods where the killer tried to hide from authorities by being a lumberjack.

In the video, the serial killer gives a chilling smile to the camera while his latest victim can be seen restrained in the reflection of a window and heard trying to scream.

Since then, it’s been revealed that Dexter now goes by the name Jim Lindsay, a sales associate at Fred’s Fish & Game.

Die-hard fans reckon that this new cover is a nice little nod to the author of the Dexter books, Jeff Lindsay.

Dexter season 9 has not yet been given a release date.
