I miss my cheating ex – how long will I feel like this?

DEAR DEIDRE: MY ex-partner hurt me and cheated on me, but I now regret leaving him.

I’m 39 and was with my ex, 40, for 20 years. We had two kids together.

Throughout the relationship he was cruel and selfish, treating me and the children terribly.

It’s been nine months since we split, but I still miss him

The last straw came when I found out he’d been cheating on me for almost a year.

He said he’d stop, but within weeks he was messaging his mistress again.

I finally got the courage to leave him. But nine months on I still miss him terribly, and it’s not getting any better.

I feel so lonely and am starting to think I made a mistake. We had some happy times.

How long will I feel like this?

DEIDRE SAYS: You’re grieving for your relationship, and that’s natural.

But the good times weren’t enough to make up for the abuse or the betrayal. You couldn’t trust your ex and he is very unlikely ever to change.

Time really does heal, and talking to friends – or someone impartial – will help. See my support packs on Counselling and Mending A Broken Heart.

Hang in there.
