Jon Jones Says He Will Wait Another Year Before a UFC Fight
As a fighter, staying active is extremely important. Being out of the game for a long time can affect areas such as timing, stamina, among other things. Jon Jones last fought in February 2020 when he defended his belt. Since then he has been out of the fight game and it appears as though we will not see him anytime soon either.
Due to his differences with the UFC regarding pay, ‘Bones’ finds himself out of action. He has used this time to bulk up and put on more weight as he prepares to face the biggest most dangerous men in the UFC.

Will extra time to prepare benefit or hurt Jon Jones?
Jones recently took to Twitter to answer questions put forth by fans. One such fan tweeted, “Another full year out?”. To which ‘Bones’ replied, “Yes, I got a feeling you guys will still be around. The sport should be bigger than ever by then.. Always looking on the bright side”

He followed that up with another tweet that said, “Honestly I feel like the only people that it benefits, me jumping in their early are the other heavy weights. The way I’m training, I’m gonna be a real problem this time next year. I’m comfortable enough to wait and that’s exactly what I’ll do”
Ring rust is a real thing. It has affected multiple fighters who have not been the same after a long time away from the sport. However, it does not seem to affect ‘Bones‘ who has had multiple stints away from the sport. The most recent example being his fight against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 232. ‘Bones’ was out of action for almost a year and a half. He came back to take on arguably his biggest test to date and stopped him in style in round three.

Fans will be hoping that the same applies when Jon Jones makes his heavyweight debut. During the time away from the sport, ‘Bones’ will be aiming to grow accustomed to his larger frame and use it in a fight setting. It will be interesting to see how Jones looks after what could be potentially two years away from the fight game.
