Red Bull Fired a “Warning Shot” to Mercedes with Perez’s Monaco Charge

At the Monaco Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton found himself starting down in 7th. Red Bull knew that this was their best chance of making up ground to Mercedes in the championship.

When the race kicked off, Bottas was put out of commission with his nightmare pit stop. With Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez up in the Top-10, they launched a two-pronged attack on the lone Mercedes.

In all honesty, the Red Bull team showed Mercedes what could have been done on Sunday. Former F1 driver Jolyon Palmer said, “Maybe that is bit of a warning shot back from Red Bull.

“Mercedes had huge praise for their strategy last time out, I don’t see how Red Bull could have done differently. This time, Red Bull have nailed it with Perez and they’ve got big points, they’re in the lead of the constructor’s championship.”

Palmer confessed that he did not understand why Mercedes pitted Hamilton early. Even Hamilton himself questioned why he was called in early.

In all honesty, a driver needs to trust his team, and it was a really poor call in the end. Meanwhile, Sergio Perez snatched a fine 4th place, and it proved crucial for Red Bull to lead the championship.

Can Red Bull sustain this and make Mercedes sweat?

Truthfully speaking, this has arguably been the toughest championship battle that Lewis Hamilton has endured so far. Max Verstappen has pushed Lewis Hamilton almost to the level that Nico Rosberg did. After years of falling short, the Austrian team has never been stronger, since the Sebastian Vettel era.

The big question is, can Red Bull and Max Verstappen stop Lewis Hamilton from getting a record-breaking 8th title? The team’s recent form certainly places several points in their favor.

However, the season is still long, and anything can happen in the next few races. Verstappen has never won at the Baku City Circuit, while Hamilton has one win at the street circuit. Nevertheless, the Flying Dutchman will want to add another feather in his cap.
