“A Little Bit Too Confident”: Roger Federer Reflects on His Early Years on the Tour
Former World No.1 Roger Federer will turn 40 in August 2021. Even though the Swiss Maestro has achieved so much in his tennis career, he is not ready to hang up his boots right now. He took quite a long break but returned to the sport recently at the ATP Geneva Open 2021.
In a recent interview, Roger Federer revealed that he knew that he was a talented player right from the beginning. He admitted that he was a great athlete since the very first day and was much stronger mentally when he was young.
“I was talented, and I was good, but I was maybe a little bit too confident at the beginning,” said Federer in the interview.
Although Roger mentioned that he was good, he also highlighted that he was over-confident when he began his career. He gradually realized it and gained control over his over-confidence.
Federer clearly tried to emphasize that being young and fresh surely gives an advantage to any player. However, he is enjoying his time on tour even at the age of 39 and is targeting the Wimbledon Championships 2021 right now.
Roger Federer faces a tough draw at the French Open 2021
Federer will be playing a Grand Slam almost after 17 months when he’ll be stepping on the court at the French Open 2021. Even though he is not playing to win the title, he’ll surely try to gain confidence there.
Federer faces a difficult draw at Roland Garros. In the second round itself, he’ll be up against Marin Cilic. In the fourth round, he’ll either face Auger Felix-Aliassime or Matteo Berrettini.
The draw becomes much more laborious as he might face World No.1 Novak Djokovic in the quarters. If he somehow manages to win against the Serbian legend, he’ll draw against Rafael Nadal in the semis.
There is a positive side of this draw too as it is also a golden opportunity for Roger Federer to get the experience of playing against the best players in Paris. In spite of all the odds, fans still back him and believe that he can make an impressive comeback. Will Federer be able to succeed at the French Open 2021?
