Alan Partridge has been one of North Norfolk’s most competent broadcasters for more than 30 years, and now fans have been calling for creator Steve Coogan and This Time star Susannah Fielding to host The One Show with an online petition.

This Time, which is currently in its second series, takes inspiration from magazine programmes and spoofs the format of the The One show with inspired results – now, viewers think it’s time that the stars got to present it for real.

Fans are calling for Alan to present the show with his co-host Jenni Gresham (played by Susannah), which would add a layer of meta-appeal for fans of the comedy.

The petition itself has been signed by more than 1,500 people at the time of writing, and looks set to pass its target of 2,500 signatures.

‘As This Time is a clear parody of shows such as the One show we all want to see Steve Coogan and Susannah Fielding guest present a one off episode of the One show,’ a message on the page reads.

Susannah, for one, definitely agrees with fans trying to make it happen.

The actress shared the link to the petition on Twitter and wrote: ‘Please help by showing your support for a very worthy cause.’

The One Show, of course, is a mainstay of evening programming on the BBC. It’s been around for more than 15 years now, with the likes of Alex Jones, Jermaine Jenas and Ronan Keating currently presenting the show.

It comes after Partridge fans were thrilled with his return to This Time last month, as they hailed the second series as ‘comedy genius’. It also recently featured a surprise appearance from Matt Smith, making his first TV appearance in four years.

Susannah compared the relationship between her character Jennie and Alan to the dynamic previously shared between Susanna Reid and Piers Morgan.

She told Metro.co.uk: ‘I think we’ve all met Alan Partridge. We all know an Alan and we all know a Jenny and maybe that’s why people enjoy watching [This Time]. They certainly enjoy watching that dynamic, with a curmudgeonly older man saying the wrong thing and a slightly more PC and professional woman keeping him in tow.’

Comedy character Alan first appeared on our screens on The Day Today back in 1994, before landing his own spoof chat show Knowing Me, Knowing You and appearing in the sitcom I’m Alan Partridge.

Metro.co.uk has reached out to the BBC and Steve Coogan’s representatives for comment.

This Time With Alan Partridge airs on Fridays, at 9.30pm, on BBC One.
