Hollywood seems pretty obsessed with three things – live action remakes, more Willy Wonka movies, and Ted Bundy.

Yet another Ted Bundy movie has been confirmed, with Chad Michael Murray playing the American serial killer and rapist who murdered at least 30 women.

The 39-year-old, best known for playing Lucas Scott on One Tree Hill, will play Bundy in American Boogeyman, which ‘follows the elusive and charming killer and the manhunt that brought him to justice involving the detective and the FBI rookie who coined the phrase “serial killer.”’

The film, from Daniel Farrands, will focus on those who caught Bundy, rather than the 2019 film Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, starring Zac Efron, which was based on Bundy’s personal life.

However, the casting of another noughties heartthrob – Murray starred as the dreamy love interest in films including Freaky Friday and A Cinderella Story – as the serial killer has wound up social media, with people sick of Bundy being portrayed as charming and handsome.

Many are also peeved at the amount of films and TV series about Bundy that have been released in recent years.

In the past two years alone, Netflix has released Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes and Amazon Prime Video launched Ted Bundy: Falling for a Killer, in addition to the release of the Zac Efron movie.

Over the years, Bundy has also been played by James Marsters, Cary Elwes, Mark Harmon and Billy Campbell.

One person tweeted: ‘Really? A new sexy Ted Bundy movie is due out? Can Hollywood please stop force-feeding us this bulls***? Was there a demand for this? He was a vile monster who gruesomely ended the lives of probably more than 30 young women. Please stop making this true-crime consumer-porn trash.’

Another comment read: ‘NO MORE TED BUNDY FILMS. I AM BEGGING. NO ONE NEEDS THIS MANY TED BUNDY FILMS. Hollywood has really crossed the line into sensationalising this f***ing loser. rewarding him with a legacy for murdering 30 innocent women. shut the f*** up already.’

Bundy was arrested and jailed in 1975 for aggravated kidnapping and attempted criminal assault, when he became a suspect in a number of unsolved homicides.

He escaped and committed further murders before being recaptured in 1978, and Bundy confessed to the murders of 30 women and girls, although the true victim total is believed to be higher.

Bundy was executed by electric chair in 1989 aged 42.

It’s not just Bundy that has inspired a number of big-screen projects, as serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer will be portrayed by WandaVision’s Evan Peters, just four years after Ross Lynch played him in My Friend Dahmer.

Jeremy Renner has also previously played Dahmer, who committed the murder and dismemberment of 17 men and boys.
