Bridgerton season 2: Jessica Madsen returns as uppity Cressida Cowper while filming in new set pictures
Bridgerton star Jessica Madsen has returned to play haughty debutante Cressida Cowper in season two of the hit Netflix drama, with the actor seen filming in new set pictures.
In season one of Shonda Rhimes’ globally popular period series, Cressida competes with Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) to win the affections of the eligible bachelors of their Regency-era society.
Cressida plays a huge role in Daphne and Simon Bassett, the Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page) tying the knot, as she is the one who sees them kissing in the garden at a time when Daphne is being courted Prince Frederick of Prussia (Freddie Stroma).
The aristocrat appears ready to stir up more trouble in pictures captured during the filming of season two, as the actor was seen holding a pamphlet – most likely a new article from Lady Whistledown – while talking animatedly to two of her peers.
In another image, Cressida was seen walking with purpose while gripping onto the parchment, wearing a lilac dress, a matching fascinator and white gloves.
While Jessica will be familiar to Bridgerton viewers when the new episodes drop, they will also be introduced to several new characters, some of whom have been spotted filming their scenes.
Among the new faces are Melissa Advani as Lady Eaton and Priya Kansara as her daughter Miss Eaton, who were shown wrapping up warm on set as they filmed in chilly weather.
The Bridgerton scene being photographed appears to depict a very social affair, with members of the ton appraising one another while standing on the grounds of a lavish property.
Characters are seen walking arm-in-arm on the grass, dressed head-to-toe in elegant ensembles worthy of a mention from Lady Whistledown.
A couple of actors were photographed peeking out of carriages, while one wearing a top hat was shown having a touch-up by a make-up artist or hair stylist.
Last month, it was announced that Regé-Jean would not be returning for the second season of Bridgerton, much to many fans’ devastation.
In a statement, he said: ‘Pleasure and a privilege! An honour to be a member of the family – on and off screen, cast, crew and incredible fans – the love is real and will just keep growing.’
His co-star, Phoebe, recently spoke out about his exit, saying that it will be a ‘spanner’ in the show.
Speaking on Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast, she said: ‘I had a bit of a heads up so I knew but yeah, I guess it is a spanner.
‘But again, the show centers around the Bridgertons and there are eight books. I think maybe the fans of the books were more aware of that happening than the fans of the show.’
Phoebe added that while ‘it’s sad to see [Regé-Jean] go’, she’s ‘looking forward to being reunited with my family’.
The first season of Bridgerton is available to watch on Netflix.
