Claressa Shields Gives Bizarre Reason Why Deontay Wilder Deserves a Third Crack at Tyson Fury

In February 2020, Deontay Wilder succumbed to a lopsided loss to Tyson Fury in an enigmatic heavyweight title fight. This was the first time the highly intimidating Wilder ended up on a losing vertical in his professional boxing run. However, in a few months from now, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ will have a chance to avenge this defeat.

Wilder claimed this fight by pouring cold water on Fury’s undisputed title fight with Anthony Joshua. Consequently, the Alabama native was on the receiving end of a huge backlash coming from the boxing fraternity. However, the renowned combat sports sensation, Claressa Shields, believes Wilder deserves this trilogy.

In a chat with TheMacLife, she said, “I feel like with the whole little charades or everything’s that going on, nobody can be mad at Deontay Wilder for wanting a trilogy, can’t be. Because in my opinion, Deontay Wilder won the first fight, that was a draw.”

Fury and Wilder went all out against each other in this 12-round war. The duo traded substantial punches with each other, thus keeping the fans excited till the very end.

Shields, in her above interview, felt there were some rounds where ‘The Gypsy King’ threw four punches. Whereas there were rounds when Wilder threw three punches. As a result, she believes it is tough to decide who won those rounds.

Furthermore, ‘T-Rex’ added that as ‘The Bronze Bomber’ put Fury on the canvas twice, it was enough to term him as the winner.

Did Deontay Wilder do enough to win his first fight with Tyson Fury?

Wilder entered his first showdown with Fury as a sheer favorite. Many expected him to knock the Brit out inside seven rounds. But to everyone’s surprise, the fight went until the last bell. What was even more staggering in this fight, was Fury’s thunderous performance.

The Lancashire native landed enough jabs and right hands to come out as a winner in most of the rounds. Yet Wilder kept him on his toes, landing his dynamite-like right hands throughout the fight. Fury dodged them and survived until the last gong, denying Wilder a win for the first time in his illustrious career.

‘The Bronze Bomber’ will look to return the favor to ‘The Gypsy King’.
